On Tour

This season, TYKEs can deliver a complete show right to your door! Schools, libraries and performing arts centers can enjoy an incredible TYKEs performance of "The Sharing Stone" during Spring of 2008.

"The Sharing Stone" is an original play created by TYKEs and based on the legendary fable Stone Soup. In this witty play, Gertie the wise old mouse comes to the forest in search of a meal, seeking out the generosity of strangers. When the other animals in the forest are less-than-enthusiastic about sharing their food, she begins to make soup alone, using a stone as her single ingredient. Intrigued by the stranger and her stone, the other animals are finally persuaded to make several "donations" so that they might all share in the bountiful meal promised to them. After thwarting several of the animals' well-intentioned contributions (a band-aid, a no-pest strip and sardine broth, just to name a few), Gertie manages to create The Best Soup Known to Animal Kind — with the help of her newfound friends and the added flavor of a much-adored jellybean.

Students will fall in love with The Sharing Stone's hilarious, eccentric characters including Skeeter the extremely energetic squirrel who happens to have a serious nut allergy, Rubie the compulsively clean bunny, and Bernie the street-wise raccoon who likes to peruse other folks' trash in search of "buried treasure."

The Sharing Stone presents messages of diversity, teamwork, sharing and acceptance in a truly unique and novel way. While they're laughing at the wacky antics of these charismatic characters, students in the audience will thrill at the chance to become actively involved in the story — guiding the animals' actions and helping them to do the right thing.

This 35 to 40 minute show is recommended for children in grades pre-K to 6. Audience size is unlimited. A complete study guide accompanies the performance.
